Services for Individuals with Learning Disabilities, ADHD, and Other Diagnosed and Undiagnosed Learning Difficulties

Introduction

Learnabilities offers a research-based multiple-methods approach to services for children, young adults, and adults with learning disabilities, ADHD, and/or other diagnosed or undiagnosed learning difficulties (and their parents, if applicable):

  •  Individualized evaluation of learning styles and “learnabilities”

  • Learning strategy (e.g., vocabulary learning) and study skills instruction (e.g., note taking, time management, test preparation and test taking)

  • Other academic skills instruction (e.g., goal setting, organization, listening, public speaking, argumentation/logic, library skills)

  • Methods for increasing proficiency in reading and writing at all levels

  • One-on-one content tutoring sessions (e.g., biology, chemistry, math)

  • Information/resources for those with newly identified learning difficulties

  • Transition consulting for high school students considering college (e.g., preparing, finding a college, disability issues, what to expect)

  • Career exploration (based on strengths, interests, job characteristics, etc.)

Goals

1.      To assess learning styles and “learnabilities” in order to understand the nature of students' unique strengths and challenges related to learning.

2.      To provide strategies and suggestions for capitalizing on students' strengths in order to compensate for their challenges related to learning.

3.      To help students practice skills and strategies based on their strengths to the point that they can use them INDEPENDENTLY in the course of their education/vocation.

4.      To help students generate ways of sharing knowledge about their unique learning profiles with teachers/professors, school staff, employers, and others.

5.      To help students increase self-esteem related to learning and other tasks.

In general, to help students achieve mastery of their own learning so that they no longer need services.
